Novelista y dramaturgo inglés. Galsworthy renunció a la carrera jurídica para convertirse en escritor, y muchas de sus obras tocan temas legales. Publicó varios trabajos antes de El propietario (1906), la primera novela de La Saga de los Forsyte (terminada en 1922). Esta crónica familiar, por la cual se lo recuerda más, se compone de tres novelas ligadas por dos interludios. Prosiguió la historia de los Forsyte en tres novelas posteriores reunidas en A Modern Comedy [Una comedia moderna] (1929). Sus obras de teatro, escritas en un estilo naturalista, examinan con frecuencia un problema ético o social controversial; incluyen La caja de plata (1906), La Huelga (1909), Justicia (1910) y Lealtades (1922). En 1932 obtuvo el Premio Nobel de Literatura.
